The Last Billboard

October 2015
Pittsburgh, PA

curated by Jon Rubin

Pittsburgh based artist and curator, Jon Rubin has been running the The Last Billboard since 2010. It’s essentially a 36 foot long rooftop billboard located on the corner of Highland and Baum in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Each month a different artist was invited to use the billboard. The custom designed billboard consisted of a rail system with wooden letters that were changed by hand. The project came to an end in 2018. What’s truly great about the project is that it’s an art piece that doesn’t come across as an art piece, which is what Jon Rubin does in his own work so well. For my billboard, I wanted to make something that felt like a narrative, something personal that would allow passers by to create their own story.
