Where I’m Calling From

Installation: cell-phone video, filing cabinet, chart, painting, dimensions variable:  2007

Where I’m calling from is an installation piece.  The digital video, which was shot with a Palm phone begins with an artist speaking with a Palm phone store sales representative on the phone about the potential of buying a palm phone in order to record moments of the sublime with a palm phone.  During the course of the filming, the artist disappears and a French women and her boyfriend take over the completion of the project.  But they cannot agree on how to complete the artist’s original vision and go their separate ways, one of them wanting to complete a chart or a painting and the other wanting to continue filming moments of the sublime.

Where I’m calling from was originally installed in Nov 2007 at Blank Space Gallery in Oakland, CA (http://blankspacegallery.com/)as part of the show Workaday, curated by Lorie Anderson and Lisa Solomon.
