The Book You Said I Never Returned, plus three to five pastorals

Nov-Dec 22, 2011 Steven Wolf Fine Art, San Francisco

The idea for this show came from a video that I made for artist Tucker Nichols as he was prepping for his exhibition in April of that year. The film Blowup was the result. It starts out as a very straightforward artist documentary but then it starts to drift off subject, ending Tucker breaking into someone’s house to help me prove that I had returned a book. I liked the idea of the storyline so much that I decided to devote an entire solo show to it. The result was The Book you Said I never returned , plus three to five pastorals, an art exhibition that attempted to prove through use of installation (video, painting, PowerPoint presentation, photography, and gallery materials) that in fact a book was returned.  Art is really never used to prove anything, so it felt like the perfect medium to attempt to definitively prove something so subjective.
